Can I do Pilates when I’m pregnant?

Pilates is well known for being a very safe form of exercise, whilst still maintaining its reputation of being challenging and holding many physical and mental benefits.

A lot of these exercises require you to be able to move in different positions.

And other classes may be more physically demanding than others.

So can you still do Pilates when pregnant? What are the benefits?

You should check with your doctor before doing any kind of exercise during pregnancy.

However, Pilates tends to be particularly suitable for pregnant women.

This is because it is a low-impact form of exercise that strengthens the back, stomach and pelvic floor muscles.

When pregnant, there are a lot of positions when you enter your second trimester that you cannot do.

This doesn’t mean that you have to stop, however.

All of our classes take into consideration each and every person’s capabilities.

And trust me, we are able to work around a lot. There are always ways to keep fit during pregnancy!

So what about post pregnancy?

Most pregnant women will be aware of the abdominal muscles splitting during and after pregnancy, but not all is lost!

The stronger your core, the faster you will recover from birth, and the easier the birth will also be, a double win!

Once the baby is born we suggest to wait 6 weeks post pregnancy before attending unless you have had a cesarean.

12 weeks is suggested for C-sections as long as your doctor is happy.

So with all that in mind, get yourself booked in for a Pilates class, you won’t regret it!
